The goal of this course is to introduce the basics of household financial planning for those who would like some introductory knowledge on how to create a well-designed household budget.
Various forms of income will be considered as well as common household expenditures. Basic investment income strategies will be discussed as well as various forms of annuities and government-sponsored programs.
More advanced planning topics including tax treatment will be included based on the demand and interest of students. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to prepare a comprehensive household budget using instructor provided templates with the intent of growing long-term economic wealth.

Originally from New Brunswick, Jeffrey O’Leary has worked for over 13 years at Maple Leaf Foods in various Corporate Finance, Sales and Marketing positions throughout the organization. Currently, Jeff works at Karl Storz Medical Devices leading a team of Accountants within Business Unit Accounting. Jeff holds undergraduate degrees in Accounting & Economics, an MBA and is a CMA and CPA in Ontario as well as a Chartered Marketer with the Canadian Marketing Association. Jeff has been teaching in post-secondary education for over thirteen years and is currently a lecturer at the University of Guelph, Brock University and McMaster University Continuing Education. A Moderator & Facilitator in the Ontario CPA and CM program, Jeff routinely holds seminars and speaks for various associations including HRPA Ontario and the Canadian Marketing Association.
